Furtiva Lagrima follows three characters borrowed from Puccini’s opera TOSCA, a painter, a tyrant and a diva, who collide with power, position, sex and inspiration.
Imagine a few great operatic, jazz, pop and country chestnuts woven through Nora York’s original compositions;
making a musical crazy quilt appropriated from Puccini, Miles Davis, Verdi, Jimi Hendrix, Schubert, Donizetti,
traditional folk, Purcell, Patti Smith, Saint Saens, Handel and Mozart.
Furtiva Lagrima is being developed for stage with director JoAnne Akalaitis and artist Kiki Smith.
Wow — there will be more updates soon!

Nora York follows two characters borrowed from
Puccini’s TOSCA as they love and hate each other;
vainly attempting to defy and deny death.
Fragments of Puccini, Verdi, Schubert, Donizetti, Boito,
Purcell, Handel and Mozart are woven together through
Nora York’s original compositions to create
recombinant inventions of indescribable category.
Furtiva Lagrima features bass baritone vocalist Kevin Burdette singing with Nora.
Her ensemble is both virtuoso crossover and classical musicians:
Dorothy Lawson on cello, Dave Hofstra on acoustic bass,
Steve Tarshis on resonator guitar and Jamie Lawrence on Harmonium.
York is currently in collaboration with
director JoAnne Akalaitis and artist Kiki Smith
developing “Furtiva” for the stage.
